Carpooling is becoming more popular

In November 2023, specialized platforms record nearly a million daily journeys. That's 400 more compared to November 000!

Passenger: why and how to find your carpool?

Carpooling has many advantages: financial savings, reduction of the carbon footprint, reduction of road traffic, strengthening of social ties, reduction of stress related to driving, accessibility for people who live in less well-served areas, etc.

To find a carpool, you can log in to the app or the Île-de-France Mobilités website, in the “Getting Around” section. Once you have completed your route search, click on the “Car” tab to find possible carpooling routes.

You will then find the drivers who take the same route as you on a daily basis, with all the practical information: identity of the driver, pick-up location, departure time, journey time, etc.

This option allows you to benefit from certain advantages. For example, to combat traffic jams and air pollution, Île-de-France Mobilités offers 2 trips per day for holders of a monthly or annual Navigo pass as well as an imagine R package.

Once the route has been selected via your account, you are redirected to one of the partner platforms to finalize your request.

The service works so well that I sold my car. It's very rare to wait a long time, usually I find a driver within ten minutes.

Driver: why and how to offer carpooling?

If you are a driver, offering carpooling is a way to earn a little money and create connections with other passengers, while doing something for the planet.

Do you drive alone during rush hour?

In 2023, nearly 74% of drivers are alone in their car during rush hour, a figure which illustrates the opportunity to develop carpooling solutions.

To offer your carpooling trips, download a Île-de-France Mobilités partner application.

Being a driver allows you to earn:

  • Up to €150 per month as part of the partnership between carpooling platforms and Île-de-France Mobilités;
  • Up to 100 € thanks to the'carpooling assistance, for drivers who start carpooling (€25 for the 1st carpool and the rest for the 10th carpool, within 3 months from the first shared journey);
  • Earnings specific to your rate carpooling, which reimburses part of the gasoline or electricity consumed.

I started carpooling mainly to share my fuel costs. By carpooling half the week, I manage to save roughly 1 tank per month. Today, I also carpool for the conviviality: I only meet friendly people.

Carpooling: discover the aid and systems in your city or department

The departments can complement the systems that exist at the national or local level, to offer assistance and solutions adapted to the specificities of each territory. The State supports communities (municipality, department or region) on the basis of the principle of 1 € from the State for 1 € from the community.

Here are some examples of systems and projects (non-exhaustive) for each department of Île-de-France.
